All Eyes

2024

Watercolor and gouache

All Eyes explores themes of seeing and being percieved. Surrounded by eyes invading her personal space, watching and observing, the woman looks boldly out at the viewer. The eyes on her face look out at the viewer, seeing them as they see her. The woman’s cape, the pattern of countless eyes sewn into it, cannot shield her from the many ways she will be seen and perceived by the world around her. It billows out and the shadows beneath her cape, with their own gleaming eyes, add to how the viewer is seen by the piece. This work is a reflection on the complexities of being observed and the power of seeing.
